MSD implements multi-sector rule of law and human rights programs in Latin America & the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, engaging in partnerships with key justice system actors and institutions to capitalize on their knowledge resources and build local capacity for sustainability of reforms once the program ends.
Current projects include a regional project to strengthen labor justice in Central America, working in El Salvador, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, and Honduras, as well as the Human Rights Program and the Access to Justice Program in Colombia. MSD’s expertise in judicial reform and justice sector strengthening in Latin America is complemented by its justice sector programming in East Timor and its family justice project in Egypt.
MSD’s programs extend from judicial training and court administration to include enhanced criminal investigations, alternative dispute resolution and restorative justice. A focus on rule of law enables MSD to bring depth of expertise to an expanding range of programs, including land tenure, indigenous rights, and protecting the rights of vulnerable populations.
