Administration of Justice Program, Bolivia
USAID/BOLIVIA
2001- 2004

MSD successfully supports Bolivia’s transition to a new Criminal Procedures Code through a $4.5 million USAID-funded Administration of Justice contract, in order to strengthen the legal foundation of a society governed by

the rule of law.  MSD activities include (1) legal development and legislative drafting, (2) institutional strengthening,(3) professional training, (4) public awareness, and (5) funds

management. MSD-sponsored efforts to improve management information systems through automation and training to create an enabling environment for application of the new law.  Training for justice sector officials, including prosecutors, police, and law school faculty in oral prosecutorial techniques,

increases confidence and the aptitude to administer criminal cases more effectively and enforce laws fairly. Administrative

support in funds management helps to secure financial support for the government of Bolivia to implement and maintain its

case-tracking information technology.  Public awareness training and education campaigns that targetwomen and the poor in order to grow local demand for accountability in justice sector services strengthen the capacity of civil society.
