Access to Justice and Respect for Human Rights

MSD is a leader in rule of law and human rights programming, and retains its position at the forefront of the movement to increase access to justice for marginalized populations. From the design and execution of small Administration of Justice programs to the implementation and evaluation of complex public sector reform and human rights initiatives, we work towards building strong justice sectors that promote a culture of respect for the rule of law and human rights. We value and support the rights of marginalized populations, including women and children, ethnic and religious minorities, and, in many countries, workers and community advocates, and we are committed to the sustainability of our partner and donor efforts.

Strengthening Democracies

MSD views the process of strengthening democracies as a continuum that begins with the promotion and strengthening of the rule of law – including justice sector reform, strengthening legal frameworks, and administration of justice – and extending to increasing access to justice for marginalized populations to nurture the personalization of justice- and the promotion of human rights, including early warning systems, community-based dispute resolution, and growth of peace processes – including war tribunals, truth commissions, and property claims.
