A Tradition of Service
MSD's commitment to protecting vulnerable populations and supporting civil society is reflected in its longstanding corporate engagement with local and national advocacy groups and charities. By regularly participating in awareness-raising efforts such as walk/runs and collecting donations food drives, MSD senior officers and home office staff give back to the local community and foster a sense of purpose for the work they support in communities far away from their own.

Since 2003, MSD has sponsored a team to participate in Washington, DC's Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Susan G. Komen for the Cure is the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists, having raised more than $1.9 billion in funds to educate the public, empower survivors, and encourage science since its creation in 1982.
Twice a year, MSD collects donations of food and clothing from its staff and assembles them in to gift boxes and food baskets for distribution by at SOME, the only interfaith, community-based organization in the District of Columbia that offers a comprehensive, holistic approach to caring for DC's homeless and extremely poor citizens.
MSD staff participate in Walk Now for Autism Speaks, the nation's largest grassroots autism walk program. Autism Speaks is the nation's largest autism science and advocacy organization, bringing together volunteers, families, and businesses to raise awareness about autism and generate funds to increase autism research.
